Music Magazines and Their Conventions:

Today, I'm looking at different music magazine covers and explain their conventions. When looking at different music magazine, you can notice that they all have similar conversation which make them up. Look at these 3 different music magazine covers:

Like all magazine cover, the first thing you notice is the mastheads. Look at how the editors of these music magazine covers have used a thick font style to make it eye catching. Also they made sure their masthead is in contrast against the dark or light background. It helps the audience who like to their magazine easier to find it and it leaves a print in the reader minds.

A similarity between these music magazine covers is that they all have a main image of a celebrity that they are talking about and them right in the middle of the page. The reason why they have done this is because it informs their target audience who are interested in this particular person,  should get this magazine and read about their favourite celebrity and that they are up to date about the latest gossip about them and they. They made sure they right in the middle so that they are first thing besides the masthead that the target audience will see. Also, the editors have used airbrush to make celebrities so that it connotes the idea that of them being perfect and give the audience a reason why they are their role models.

Another one of their similarity is that they have other taglines on their page. The editors of theses have added them because it gives the audience an idea on what other special articles that they can read and there is a little extract on what the audience will be reading about.

Attemping My Contents Page:

Before half-team, after finishing my front page of my school, my teacher set us the task to go back and design our school magazine content page. As you can see here, this is my final design for my contents page.

One thing that I like about my contents page is that I still have the same colour scheme that I had for my front page which is the green, white and grey. The reason why I did this because I thought it was a good idea to show consistence and show that my contents page it apart on my school magazine and not doing about a content page that has random colours.

Also, another thing that I like about my contents page is the pictures that I included. The reason for this is because I like the way I used the pictures effectively on the page with the use of space around the page. In addition to this I like the range of pictures that used because of the the different shots and angles.

One thing that I didn't like about abut my contents page is that in the bottom right of the page there is a big space and along the bottom of the page . A way to improve that is I could add another picture to make use of the space or add more articles to fill in the space at the bottom of the page.

Another thing that I didn't like and would improve is my subhead "Main Stories" and make it like my other titles because it doesn't stand out against the grey background. To make it stand out, what I should have done was add the green strip and make the writing white to make it the audience know that the it's an important part to read.

Attemping My School Front Cover:

After I collected from my photo shoot, I went on to PhotoShop and started to design my school magazine cover

As you can see, my idea is starting to look like a school magazine cover with the masthead and the article in their places. This might be my final idea but I might ask my classmate to see what I could add and improve for my school magazine cover.

The reason why I made my masthead and the sub-titles the colour green because its bright which can grab my readers attention. also the colour green is thought to be a positive colour which links to my message to one of my article and the masthead. In addition to this, I made sure that I used a picture that have a dark background because so that my text can be seen due to the contract between the light colours against the dark grey background.

I put the picture of one of my friend on the left side on the magazine because of the Z rule magazine covers and how when the audience scan information they read from left to right. So after my audience see my masthead first them they will see my model then look through the article sub-titles.

Potential Font School Cover:

During week, my media teacher set us the task to take some photos that could potentially be the front cover of school magazine. So during my friends free lesson, I gathered them and made sure that it was group of friends and positioned them on what I wanted them to be doing for my front cover.

The reason why like this picture because it suit the idea of my school magazines name "Stepping Up" and the only way to do that is to go up. Also, the way they are posing against the background make them stand out.

This picture was the first picture that  I took use one of my teachers cameras and I really like it because its just her walking through the corridors. In addition to this, the lighting was really effective because as it makes the bright and looks like she is going on a journey.

This picture that I took in the library, I think its really effective due to the lighting. The lighting helps the picture because it make the picture stand out with the bright colours and it's really clear.

This picture is just a simple and I like how I'm just took a picture while my friend are in mid conversation because I think it gives off a natural picture like I wasn't taking it and it just them sitting on the stairs.
Also, I think it shows how students are like just their free periods

I like how I have a mid-shot that right behind my friend. The reason for this is because it like the camera is following her and seeing where she is going to go next.

This picture simple and straight forward on what she is doing, while is just browsing for a good book to read. That's the reason why I like this photo.










There were more photos but I felt that these were the best few that I thought looked the best during the mini photo shoot.

Mastheads, Fonts and Student Covers:

Today during media, we had a few task that we had to complete. The first task was to design three difference mastheads or have the same title but have difference styling of fonts. I decided to make three different masthead that could potentially be my heading for my school magazine cover.

These are the examples of masthead  that i sketched during that lesson. I really like the last "Stepping Up" because when you are in school, you always have to step up to the plate or you're going to get left behind. 

Now that I have an idea of what masthead that I would be using to create my school magazine cover, this would link to the second task that. The next task was that I had to go on a website called DaFont and they is where you can insert your word that you want to be customise in a range of fonts and styles.

                                                    

These are some of the images of the fonts that I might use for the masthead. I really like all of the different range of fonts so I might have to ask my classmates of what font style that will uses for the font cover of my school magazine.

Now, for the final task I had look at other AS Media magazine covers. This will help me get an idea of what things I should do while I'm making my school cover. Here are some examples that I was looking at.

           

             

       

By look at other students magazine cover, I have noticed that 3 out of 4 work really well because they have used a plain background which makes it clear to read the messages. When you look at the Focus school magazine, you can see that the person who made this cover had used a corridor for their background. By adding a lot of write on their cover makes it hard for someone to read because they is too much things that are going on on that page. Whereas the others have the only have fewer sentences on the page and in a suitable fonts and colour which makes it easy for the audience to read.
