Sound Techniques

Diegetic and Non-Diegetic Sounds

The Mindy Project, it has both diegetic and non-diegetic sounds in the clip. In the first 8 second of the clip, it has added casual music in the background to show that time has past and this is the non-diegetic part of the clip. However, after those 8 second and some other diegetic; you can office noises that are coming from the background.

Sound Effects

In the Transformers movies, they have a great range of sound effects like when the the transformers change from being a car to their full body. These are some of the example when they use the same sound effects.
Voiceover

In the first 24 seconds of this clip, there is a voiceover which give a short introduction about how life has two choices of telling a short. One is that it's all happy go luck which sugar coats the truth place but sometimes in the real world it's not like that.

Direct Address

This clip show direct address and this is when the character in the movie talking directly at the camera like the audience is there with him. This is how we would see it if people are talking to us in real life and now its like its our point of view that we are listening to him talk.

Dialogue

This clip shows dialogue and this is shown there is the 2 way conversation with Ichabod and red-haired women at first which is followed by a brief 3 way conversation then finally when the red-haired women leaves return to a 2 way conversation with Ichabod and Abbie.

Sound Design

Over the week before half term, my class was given the task of re-make a clip from different show but I chose the TV show called Sherlock and going on to GarageBand to see how I interpret the clip. The clip that out media teacher gave us had the sound stripped way for use to work on this.

This is the original Sherlock clip and the my remake of this clip ends at 1:04.

In the first clip, it uses silence which is connotation to shows that Sherlock is waiting for something to happen. When Sherlock get the text message, just a simple ringtone. This is a connotation because every though the tone is simple it show that person trying to contact Sherlock is the first priority and only take a single tone. Also, it can suggest that the person that is contacting Sherlock has a slight control over him.

The music in the background is the called Stayin' Alive by The Bee Gees. This connotes the idea that this guy that Sherlock is meeting is all about have fun and not being serious about the life around him because the music could reflect that his personality is carefree. However, it would be foreshadowing that between Sherlock and the other guy, someone might die.

This is the re-make of this clip. Mine starts at 14 seconds.

In comparison to the original clip, the ringtone is simple as well and this connotes the idea that this person contacting Sherlock doesn't need a loud ringtone because to get Sherlock attention. In the original clip, Sherlock sat in silence but in my re-make there are loud bubbles in the background. This connotation could suggest that Sherlock is a smart person that know what he is doing and this could also show that how his mind works and that he is always thinking.

In the original clip, the background music that the editors use a song that is very fun and fast but in my one, the background music is slow and sad. This connotation suggest that the man that has contacted Sherlock isn't pleased about the situation that he is in.

The voice-overs hard very different because the original clip had a very serious atmosphere which it give the connotation that the two characters are enemies and that the guy who text Sherlock is telling that he has defeated him. However, in my re-make, it seem to have a comedic atmosphere because he is talking about a phone.
